Live Music Events Spill Into Community Jubilee Weekend

Live Music Events Spill Into Community Jubilee Weekend

Leading up to and during the mainstage Jubilee, Jubilee-goers, live-music fans and supporters will have many opportunities to enjoy and support live music in the community.

“We have a killer line-up this year and again are proud to offer some great live music, for all tastes and ages, outside of our main stage,” said Executive Director, Carlton Munroe. “We’re excited with a new approach for the Songwriter’s Circle, a new local venue and of course the opportunity to promote live music in our downtown New Glasgow area.”

The weekend starts with the Jubilee Kick-Off Party on Thursday July 28th at Acro Lounge with Jubilee Main Stage and late-night stage alumni Alert the Medic with Grooveback. Admission is $10 at the door and show starts at 10:00pm.

On Saturday July 30th, the Jubilee welcomes all to the free Children’s Jubilee, from 12-4pm at Carmichael Park in New Glasgow and will feature Shelley Bean and the Duckety Muds and The Jugglin Bubblers.

Saturday afternoon continues with the Jubilee Songwriters Café, formerly the Songwriters Circle, which will be hosted by The Commune and feature Doris Mason, Ashley George, Lacey Morrell and Dylan Menzie. Donations at the door will be accepted and donated to the Autism Pictou County Music program.

The sweet sounds continue into Sunday with the Youth Stage at Carmichael Park from 1-2pm, with Carleigh Halliday. Following this, the free Blues in the Park, presented by the Pictou County Blues Society at Carmichael Park from 3:00-6:00pm and will feature Bill Stevenson with Chris Mitchell and Full Dose.

The Jubilee Late Night Stage at Acro Lounge features three nights of late night music as the Main Stage wraps up, starting at midnight.  Friday night’s Late Night Stage features Main Stage performer Jesse Brown in a club show, along with Andre Pettipas & The Giants.  Saturday night has Coyote, along with a show you won’t want to miss – the legendary electronic rock sounds of Jimmy Swift Band.  The Late Night Stage wraps up Sunday featuring Reeny Smith and Pictou County’s StoneHouse.  Admission at the door is $10.

Rounding out the weekend will be the Jubilee Electronic Wrap Party at the Commune, starting at 12:30am. Cost is $10 at the door and will feature Wet Paint.

Jubilee Media & Photographer Accreditation is now open

Jubilee Media & Photographer Accreditation is now open

The Riverfront Jubilee is now accepting requests for Media and Photographer Accreditation for its July 29th, 30th and 31st, 21st anniversary event in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. We have a limited number of places available; those interested must demonstrate that they meet the criteria outlined below.

Media Accreditation will be granted to media representatives who can demonstrate one or both of the following:

  • Can provide samples of publicity on the 2015 Jubilee that they have had published; and/or
  • Will be covering the event live during the weekend and producing articles, Blogs, podcasts, radio remotes etc. that will be published no later than August 8th, 2016. Please note that we may request additional information about the publication you work for; ie, format, followers/readership, etc.

Photographer Accreditation:

Those wishing to serve as official photographers of the 2016 Jubilee must submit by email a link to their portfolio and their availability for the weekend of July 29th, 30th and 31st.

Photographers must be willing to commit to one or more of the time slots below (please clearly outline your availability in your email).

While main stage photography is important, there are numerous other aspects of the event that we also wish to have photographed. For that reason, priority will be given to photographers who indicate a willingness and ability to photograph other areas of the event. Photography must include crowd shots, volunteers and sponsorship (ie. Branded vehicles, banners etc).

New this year:
We require a rockin’ crowd shot as part of submissions. Obviously our artists are amazing, but we need a 360 capture of our site. Failure to send a crowd shot may impact media accreditation for the 2017 show. We don’t mean to be jerks; but our patrons are super important to us.

As mentioned, we love shots of our amazing performers but it’s also very important to capture images of our patrons, our site and the overall look and feel. Hey, even a selfie of our beloved-photogs would be awesome! We will be looking for shots of the event in its entirety, not just the main stage (although great!). We would also appreciate photos during the day of the site set-up. We get it, not as cool or fun, but something we would really appreciate from all of you.

Memories of Burton Cummings’ Past Pictou County Visit

Memories of Burton Cummings’ Past Pictou County Visit

It seems like only a few days ago that the superstar Jubilee site crew were tearing down following a memorable performance from the legendary Steve Earle and the Dukes.  The “hardcore troubadour” toweled off and quickly made his way out to meet a huge lineup of fans after the show, with a backdrop of crew dismantling the main stage site in the wake of a successful 20th anniversary event.

And after a long (although not as long as the prior year) winter, your faithful Jubilee team is back, and a couple months ago announced the 2016 lineup that music fans are still cheering about.

We are thrilled that, once again, rock and roll royalty is coming to New Glasgow.  And in this case, there might not be a more celebrated and successful frontman in Canadian rock history.  From an early age, Burton Cummings made his mark by replacing Chad Allan as lead singer of The Guess Who in 1966.

After a couple of years of ridiculously hard work on the road, in the studio and on television, The Guess Who broke through in 1969 with “These Eyes”, starting a string of classics that remain some of the most recognizable and beloved songs in the great Canadian song book.

Burton Cummings would leave The Guess Who to begin a hugely successful solo career in 1975, and since then he’s garnered pretty much every lifetime honour possible in our great country.

In talking with some lifelong fans at the Box Office at Glasgow Square, we’ve heard some great memories of his songs and performances.  Two different people recall a Guess Who performance at The New Glasgow Stadium in 1968.  And while we’ve spent some time digging and searching for a concert poster or ticket stub, The Jubilee has not yet been able to find any memorabilia from this gig.

So we ask out there, do you have somewhere stuffed in your attic, a Guess Who poster from New Glasgow in 1968?  Or any other piece of history from the band or Burton Cummings himself?  We would love to see and share this.  Let us know…and see you at the 21st annual Jubilee July 29-31.
